Sonnschein Hiking Tips

 No matter what type of action or hiking type you are here in Wildchönau, there are different ways to explore the Kitzbühel Alps.

Hike through the Kundler Gorge

Difficulty level: easy
Length: approx. 5.3 km
Duration: 2 h

Particularities:

  • only slightly increasing
  • Suitable for pushchairs
  • one of the most beautiful natural gorges in Tyrol


Route:

  • Start in Mühltal, Wildschönau ("Färberwirt" bus stop)
  • 2 km "Klammstraße", along meadows and fields to the beginning of the gorge
  • leisurely hikes through the Kundler Gorge next to the thundering water masses of the Wildschönauer Ache
  • after 3.3 km arrival at "Gasthaus Kundler Klamm"
  • Option: "Slow train" ride back, from "Schlucht" station to Mühltal, Wildschönau
Family hike to the Kragenjoch

Difficulty level: easy
Length: approx. 9.7 km
Ascent: 500 meters in altitude
Duration: 3.5 hours

Particularities:

  • Wonderful vantage point
  • Nice hike with kids
  • Stop at the "Achentalalm"


Route:

  • Start at the "Gasthof Dorferwirt"
  • Right to the "Egghöfen" along the road to the Boarstadl snack bar
  • From there on to the “Achentalalm”, which is open in summer
  • From there it is only a short distance to the summit cross
  • View from the summit cross over the Wildschönau & the Inn Valley to Kufstein
Rosskopf

Difficulty level: medium
Length: approx. 7 km
Ascent: 320 meters in altitude
Duration: 3 h

Particularities:

  • Paragliding observation
  • Nice hike with kids
  • Stop at Markbachjochhütte, Rosskopfhütte, Käsealm or Norderbergalm


Route:

  • First with the Markbachjoch gondola to the mountain station (free with the Wildschönau Card)
  • From the mountain station via the Halsgatterl towards Rosskopf (1731m)
  • At the summit cross, a unique view of the high valley
  • From there back to the gondola lift
To the Norderbergalm

Difficulty level: medium
Length: approx. 2.5 km
Ascent 570 meters in altitude
Duration: 1.5 hours
(Or from the mountain station 30 min.)

Particularities:

  • Breakfast on the mountain
  • Hike for the whole family
  • Stop at the "Norderbergalm"
  • Option: With the gondola to the mountain station and from there in 30 minutes to the Norderbergalm


Route:

  • Start at the Wildenbach bus stop in Niederau
  • From there always along the forest road to the Norderbergalm
  • Stop at the Norderbergalm
  • Same way back or from the Norderbergalm over to the mountain station and with the gondola back to the valley
Feldalphorn (1923m)

Difficulty level: medium
Length: approx. 20 km
Ascent: 1097 meters in altitude
Duration: 7 h - 7.5 h

Particularities:

  • Summit hike over Feldalphorn & Schwaigberghorn
  • Wonderful sight of alpine rose fields
  • Stop at the "Schönangeralm" with a show dairy
  • Option: With the Markbachjoch gondola to the mountain station and start from there.


Route:

  • Start at the Klausenhof bus stop, Niederau
  • From there along a forest road up to the Markbachjoch gondola lift
  • From there towards "Holzalm" (open in summer)
  • Then over the Horler Stiegl along moor lakes and alpine rose fields up to the Feldalphorn summit cross (1923m)
  • From the Feldalphorn over a ridge hike to the Schwaigberghorn (1990m) and finally back down to the Schönangeralm.
  • Stop at the Schönangeralm
  • Option: return with the slow train to Niederau
